Before politics Kemi studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Sussex. She initially worked within the IT sector first as a software engineer at Logica (later CGI Group). While working there she studied part-time at Birkbeck, University of London and obtained a Law degree in 2009. Kemi then worked as a systems analyst at RBS, before pursuing a career in consultancy and financial services, working as an associate director of private bank and wealth manager Coutts and later a Director at the Conservative magazine The Spectator.
Kemi Badenoch is now the MP for the Saffron Walden constituency having been first elected to parliament in 2017. She is Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities). Kemi is a former Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party and former member of the Justice Select Committee.
Previously, she was a Conservative member of the London Assembly, acting as the GLA Conservativeās spokesperson for the economy. Kemi is also a patron of several charities in the constituency including Support 4 Sight, The Stroke Club and CVSU. Her other areas of interest include engineering and technology, social mobility, and integration. She provides regular mentoring to women who wish to pursue careers in technology.
This is an interactive session with Kemi and will be a chance to discuss her journey into politics.
