Join James Sunderland MP for Bracknell on 20th October at 18:00 for an exclusive Q & A.
Before politics James served in the British Army for 26 years, only leaving at short notice in November 2019 to stand as a Parliamentary candidate for his local constituency. James was elected MP for Bracknell in 2019 and was made a PPS for the Defence team in October 2021.
James’ military service consisted of Regimental Duty and staff appointments from 2Lt to Col meaning he has lived across the UK and the rest of the world. James’ operational service includes tours in Iraq, Bosnia, Africa and the Falklands. His career to date has been hugely varied and rewarding: He has lived in snow holes on the NATO Northern flank in Norway, run complex Army change programmes, delivered humanitarian operations, led UK civil contingency planning, overseen Theatre drawdown operations in Iraq and planned the multi-national contribution to Afghanistan with the Omani, Danish, Estonian and Macedonian Governments.
He was privileged to command 27 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps in Aldershot from 2014 – 16, where he was entrusted with over 800 soldiers under command. More recently James went onto serve as Commander of the Army Engagement Group, responsible for high-level engagement with Ministers, MPs, Lord Lieutenants, High Sheriffs, Councillors, & societal gatekeepers on behalf of the Army Board.
Outside of his parliamentary duties James is an occasional contributor to publications and his hobbies include football, cricket, history, and walking.
